Job Description
JOURNALIST SELANGORKINI MANDARIN.
Journalist Duties and Responsibilities
- Daily responsibilities include receiving assignments for stories, evaluating leads and pitching compelling story ideas to editors, revising and editing work for editorial approval and collaborating with other reporters, editors and production staff.
- Gather information for newsworthy stories through interviews, press conference, investigation and research
- Build a network of sources for interviews and develop relationships within the community.
- Travel to various locations to find current, relevant details about newsworthy events in real- time and after the fact.
- Attend and report on events such as artistic, political or social functions as well as sporting events
- Be on the scene for breaking news including human interest stories, crimes and natural disasters.
- Take photographs, video or audio recordings to document events and facts.
- Analyze facts and information and determine the most effective way to tell the story.
- File and update stories for both online and print use according to the organization’s preferences.
- Organize details to create the most impactful stories for the given medium.
Journalist Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in journalism, communication and at least 3 years of experience in related background.
- Well versed in the following languages; Bahasa Melayu, English, Mandarin.
- Able to maintain an ethical, honest and objective standard in reporting.
- Adaptable and able to build rapport with a diverse array of people.
- Disciplined with strong time management skills; able to work to deadlines.
- Superb research and writing skills.
- Creative and inquiring mind.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of communications media and telecommunications technology.
